The Philosophy
Aims
After a first experience in logistics support in industry, Cooperation-iws team decided to launch the Cooperation-iws project in march 2008, thinking that open source could significantly improve the way people interacts with each other, the way people cooperates.
The idea beyond Cooperation-iws was to give accessibility to a private web server for people without excessive interest in administration tasks: Power On and Power Off is sufficient.
You may think “Why Intranet ?, I can have my own blog on any Internet Portal of my community …”. Well, … , the answer is not simple, let’s just say that web is no more a happy, open minded community (if it has ever been) and that Intranet protects your (sensitive) data.
Intranet Nomad Web Server project
A web server, to provide hosting services of web applications (Blog, Wiki, Forum, images galleries, eLearning portal, online desktop …) for collaborative work that contributes to knowledge management and/or knowledge engineering.
Intranet, to provide these services where you want: at home, at association meetings, at professional meetings without requiring an internet connection or without the volonty to publish personnal items on the web.
Nomad, to bring these services with you, on a cd/dvd, usb key, or usb hard drive.
Manifesto
Internet, place publique, c’est la fureur de la rue, la loi du plus bruyant, du plus voyant, l’endroit ou se mélange sans retenue les aspirations les plus grandes comme les excès les plus vils de la nature humaine.
Internet a été pensé comme un lieu de coopération, il est devenu un lieu de confrontation.
La technologie nous aide à transformer le monde. Le monde est devenu le reflet de notre humanité.
Un Intranet est un ilot personnel, reflet de notre personnalité et de notre activité. Relevant de la sphère privée, on choisit le moment, l’endroit et l’opportunité de le diffuser.
Internet est une somme d’information. L’Intranet contient notre propre information, notre signification.
Sa maîtrise doit rester à notre portée.
Cooperation-iws est un projet de serveur intranet pour les familles, pour les amis, pour les collègues.
C’ est un outil d’aggrégation d’information. Internet privatif, que l’on emmène avec soi et que l’on utilise où bon nous semble.
Cooperation-iws est nomade.
Cooperation-iws est le fruit du travail de nombreuses personnes, car la pluralité fait notre richesse et notre force.
Ce travail fut bénévole ou rémunéré, mais la propriété a été volontairement partagée.
Cooperation-iws est Open Source.
Bien immatériel et infiniment duplicable, culture commune, qui tisse le lien entre les hommes et les générations.
Audience
The working groups (schools, associations, professionals) wishing to receive a tool enabling them to work in groups, to cooperate and avoid unnecessary burden of administration and security tasks.
The mobile users (educators, writers) who wish to have a tool for communication and publication in accordance with web standards.
Families that wish to provide their children a tool for publishing and web consulting personal stuff for educational purposes.
Everyone who is concerned with online privacy but still want to use online tools.
Functioning
To operate Cooperation-iws requires:
A removable drive to install Cooperation-iws : usb key (read / write), usb disk (read / write), cdrom (Read only)
Any 32-bit machine with a minimum of 1Gb RAM (2Gb recommended) which can boot on the removable media (Most recent pc).
An intranet network which consists of a router protected by a firewall, as well as connections to the various client machines.
Once installed on the removable media, Cooperation-iws may run on different machines. The Cooperation-iws server stopped, the machine returns to its original use. Cooperation-iws does not install anything on the operating machine (If windows is installed, it does not remove windows).
